ABOUT US

Merkel Nursery was founded by James (Jim) Merkel in 1986 when he took over the business from his Uncle Eddie. The nursery is on Merkel Farm which was established in 1908 when Jim's grandparents came to America from Germany. The farm is located next to Bowie State University, and in addition to the nursery, you will also find Merkel Equestrian Center (owned and operated by Jim's sister-in-law, Stephanie Merkel). 

Merkel Nursery specializes in Christmas Trees including Douglas Fir, Fraser Fir, and Concolor Fir. Currently, our trees range in height from 4' to 7'. Trees are NOT pre-cut or pre-dug. We ask that you come to the farm to pick out your tree and we will cut or dig it for you on the spot. As such, you know you are getting a fresh tree. We look forward to serving you and hope that you start (or continue) your Christmas tradition of coming to Merkel Nursery to pick out your tree.
